What's New in Beaver County

Beaver County Economic Development Corporation has been chosen to participate in the pilot version of "Sure Sites", a certified sites program that will post available sites for economic development projects on the internet.  This will give companies seeking to locate or relocate an enterprise to Beaver County searchable data online.  More importantly, specifications are being developed that will give companies assurances that the site is "shovel ready"  Among other things, sites will have to have well described power, natural gas, telecommunications, water and wastewater on-site and ready to go.  The pilot will last March through August with the full site coming up this fall.

A Boston based company is planning large wind turbine farm near Milford.  The project will be owned by UPC Wind Management, LLC. More information about the company may be found at www.upcwind.com.  UPC will be presenting an application for a "Condtional Use Permit" to the Beaver County Planning Comission on November 15, 2006.  The location of the project will be near the Millard County line north of Milford.  Shortly, we will be posting a list of contractor needs associated with the project.  UPC has expressed a desire to employ as many local contractors as possible.  We look forward to welcoming the UPC Wind to our county.

Looking forward to the winter season has many in Beaver County wondering about the future of the Elk Meadows Ski and Summer resort.

The Elk Meadows properties have recently sold to CPB Development, a Salt Lake City development company seeking to make the property into an exclusive private, ski and golf resort patterned after the Yellowstone Club in southern Montana.

The development is not without controversy.  Many wonder about water rights, usage and quality.  These are all issues the State Engineer will have to decide.  The project reports a planned investment of $3.5 billion.  Yes that was a "b".  This investment would provide badly needed tax revenue to the county.

Current Projects

The Heritage Plastics plant is under construction in the Milford City Industrial Park following the groundbreaking held on September 28.  They expect to operating in the early spring of 2007.

In October, the Central Iron County Water Conservancy District filed applications with the State Water Engineer on 37,000 acre feet of water in Hamblin, Pine and Wah Wah valleys in western Beaver County.  This is a major concern in our county as water resources are more important than land in most cases.  County officials are currently contemplating a response to the application.
